ECONOMY NEWS

  • South Dakota gas prices fell 6.8 cents this week to $2.79 per gallon as reported today by GasBuddy from 628 stations—prices ranged from $2.47 at the cheapest station to $3.41 at the priciest, marking a drop of 17.2 cents from last month and 19.1 cents from last year.  KBHB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rapid City offices will close Monday, Oct. 13 to observe Indigenous Peoples Day—city services will adjust their operations during this holiday.  Rapid City Journal
  • South Dakota could be forced to pay at least $74,000—as well as interest at 3.64%—if the Dakotans for Health committee wins its lawsuit to keep a longer petition circulation period, and the state is appealing a judge’s order that halted a law moving the filing deadline from May to February.  KBHB
  • South Dakota farmers and ranchers face uncertainty after the FarmBill ended on September 30 due to the government shutdown — some key programs continue while others remain paused until new actions are taken. Michael Happ of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy warned that essential services like conservation, research, and clean energy support on farms may be disrupted by staff shortages.  KBHB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pharmacist-driven mobile health clinics are coming to rural South Dakota to offer free check-ups, tests, and advice—helping people who live far from hospitals. The clinics run on evenings and Saturdays and are supported by state health grants and local volunteers.  KBHB

  • Black Hills State reverse swept the Chadron Eagles 3-2 in a five-set match during the RMAC Regional Pod in Spearfish—snapping a four-game losing streak—while staging a strong comeback to improve their record.  KBHB
  • South Dakota Mines beat Black Hills State 27-13 in the 140th Black Hills Brawl game at Lyle Hare Stadium on Saturday night — the visitors held the ball longer and gained more net yards to win. Black Hills State had fewer yards and struggled with turnovers in the heavy rain during the rivalry contest.  KBHB
