- ➤ On the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War's end, more than 80 veterans took part in the Midwest Honor Flight—visiting memorials in the capital and landing in Sioux Falls; Bill Rhode of Rapid City and Daniel Lapka from Eureka said the event made a difference by honoring their fallen comrades. - ➤ Rapid City employees are hosting a community chili cookoff fundraiser later this month to support the City Utility Assist initiative—this event helps residents keep their utility services active. Rapid City Journal

- ➤ South Dakota Retailers Association has launched NextGen Business Builders, a 13-month program for business owners who have run their business for five years or less to build skills in marketing, human resources, and customer service through in-person and virtual sessions — applications close November 15 and the program will start at the annual business conference in Pierre on January 11—12. - ➤ The 37th annual Black Hills Powwow will begin Friday, October 10th in Rapid City with the theme 'Wacipi Na Oskate'—'Come Dance with Us.' Rapid City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Rapid City Council approved two TIFs—one for a $27 million commercial area and the other for the $125 million Libertyland USA theme park project—and residents have gathered signatures to put the theme park TIF to a vote on Jan. 20. Local officials say the funds will cover public infrastructure while critics worry the discretionary funds may benefit private developers. South Dakota News Watch
