- ➤ Executive Director Cante Heart held a ground blessing ceremony at He Sapa Otipi in Rapid City ahead of the groundbreaking. He said the act (meant to bring good blessings) sets the stage for a new development that will benefit the community. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Today brings many local events for families and community members as Kids Day at Jaycees Feargrounds in Sioux Falls offers a haunted house for children ages 12 and under from 2-4 p.m.—Great Bear Ski Valley holds a ribbon cutting and mountain bike ride starting at 11:30 a.m. while several other activities, including a community bike ride, gun show, soup & pie supper, Pow Wow, and pumpkin picking, take place across the region. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Black Hills Powwow opening night took place Friday, Oct. 10 in Rapid City and featured vendors, music, celebration and a modeling event. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ On Oct. 11, the Indigenous Peoples Day parade moved through downtown Rapid City and showcased music and dance—vivid displays of native tradition that honored the day. Rapid City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Larry Rhoden said on Saturday that he donated his own money to light Mount Rushmore during the government shutdown; his funds will light the monument for the next week while other lawmakers will cover later days if the shutdown continues. KELOLAND
