- ➤ Hundreds gathered at Memorial Park in Rapid City for an Indigenous Peoples Day rally and march sponsored by local Native American-led nonprofit NDN Collective+the event showcased community support for indigenous heritage. Rapid City Journal

- ➤ A missing family member reported near Boulder Hill was found safe on Sunday after an 18-hour search, with agencies — including the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Pennington County Search and Rescue, and the U.S. Forest Service — leading the effort. - ➤ Hundreds participated in the 8th Annual Remembering the Children’s Walk at Sioux Park today—reading aloud the names of children who died in Indian boarding schools while Sicangu and Rapid City youth council members joined in remembrance as researchers uncovered four new names. KELOLAND
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ GasBuddy’s survey of 628 stations shows that gas prices in South Dakota rose by 2.6 cents per gallon over the past week to average $2.82 today—prices are still 10.5 cents lower than last month and 14.2 cents lower than a year ago. The national average fell by 6.4 cents per gallon to $3.02 today. KBHB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Custer State Park concessions lease managed by Custer State Park Resort Co. since 2007 will end on January 31 — state officials will begin seeking new proposals from February 1, 2026. The Department of Game, Fish and Parks is assessing park building conditions and plans to share a draft request for proposals in early January. KELOLAND
- ➤ Governor Rhoden announced he donated funds to light up Mount Rushmore after the government shutdown darkened its lights—turning on the faces of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln for one week while additional donors promised funds for days up to the 19th if the shutdown continues.
