ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A hillside fire in the Sturgis area was 100% contained after fire crews from Sturgis, Deadwood, Vale, Whitewood and Spearfish worked together to protect homes and secure the area—investigators are still looking into what started the blaze.  KELOLAND

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gevo CEO Pat Gruber said the company is moving its aviation jet fuel project to North Dakota and is not using any South Dakota state funds, even though state incentives had been approved. The company plans a $500 million investment in the new facility while keeping its Lake Preston property for a future project — a decision that leaves the state without nearly $1 billion in expected benefits.  KELOLAND

  • Pennington County fire officials prohibited open burning on Monday due to a very high grassland fire danger, and they did not allow burn piles—slash, chimneys, or duct stacks to be used.  KELOLAND
