EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Dakota News Watch and Dakota Wesleyan are co-sponsoring a state spelling bee on Feb. 7 at DWU in Mitchell that will include up to 40 elementary and middle school students chosen from local competitions—the winner will advance to the national Scripps Spelling Bee in May.  South Dakota News Watch

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • It’s been 21 days since the government shutdown began and many federal workers have missed one paycheck and now face a second, which has left them worried about covering bills and essential needs—reports indicate some agencies have threatened disciplinary action against those who speak out. Ruark Hotopp of the AFGE District 8 urged workers to continue performing their duties despite the challenges.  KELOLAND
