- ➤ South Dakota News Watch and Dakota Wesleyan are co-sponsoring a state spelling bee on Feb. 7 at DWU in Mitchell that will include up to 40 elementary and middle school students chosen from local competitions—the winner will advance to the national Scripps Spelling Bee in May. - ➤ It’s been 21 days since the government shutdown began and many federal workers have missed one paycheck and now face a second, which has left them worried about covering bills and essential needs—reports indicate some agencies have threatened disciplinary action against those who speak out.
