ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rapid City law enforcement is urging residents to choose a designated driver or call a rideshare as Halloween festivities begin this Friday. They warned that alcohol-impaired driving has led to over 200 deaths nationally and at least 26 state crashes on past Halloweens — urging everyone to plan ahead.  KELOLAND

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Rapid City Area Schools calendar committee has drafted new calendars that show later start dates following earlier heat closures—these changes aim to better accommodate the disruptions experienced this school year. The committee was formed in response to the heat closures, and the draft dates are now under review.  Rapid City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The USDA’s Farm Service Agency offices reopened today to help ag producers get co-signatures on farm check deposits and submit applications for programs like ARC and PLC — with only two employees available per county office, services remain limited.  KBHB
  • Rev. Ward Simpson and leaders from the Episcopal and Catholic churches condemned Secretary of War Pete Hegseth's decision to let soldiers who took part in the Wounded Knee massacre keep their medals—arguing that this dishonors the tragedy and distorts history. They have issued a joint statement calling for accurate acknowledgment of past atrocities and renewed efforts for reconciliation with Native communities.  KELOLAND

  • Since October 4th, South Dakota health officials confirmed 11 flu cases and urged residents to get the flu shot—medical experts stress the importance of good hygiene and hydration to lessen symptoms.  KELOLAND
