- ➤ The Community Relations Commission is collecting candy and costume donations dropped off at City Hall lobby at 300 Sixth Street until next Monday to support the Knollwood Trunk or Treat event — which will be held on Halloween evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Renewal MB Church parking lot for community children. - ➤ KELOLAND is gearing up for Halloween with events that include haunted houses, tours and community trick or treat activities across the region. The Rapid City area is hosting a Monster Ball at Deadwood Mountain Grand Event Center today from 7-10 p.m. + a costume contest and party at the Historic Franklin Hotel on Oct. 25. KELOLAND
- ➤ Phil Two Eagle, CEO of Prta Omniciye, Inc., urged the Oceti Sakowin Treaty Councils to rebuild food security and self-rule by restoring bison and enforcing longstanding treaties. He asked each reservation to grow its own food and set up local systems—helping break the cycle of outside dependency. Native Sun News
- ➤ On October 18th, an estimated 3000 to 5000 demonstrators gathered on Omaha Street as part of the No Kings II protest, a nationwide event opposing authoritarianism and calling for the restoration of democratic norms—organizers from Indivisible Rapid City and local groups held speeches, chants and a food drive for Feeding South Dakota with only minor injuries and a few arrests reported. - ➤ The India Club at South Dakota Mines is hosting its 35th annual Diwali celebration tomorrow, October 25, featuring cultural shows — food and fireworks. The event will also include traditional music and dance to mark the Festival of Lights. Rapid City Journal

- ➤ The Rapid City School Board earned an award from an education association and defended its lobbying efforts when a public commenter expressed concern over the association’s role—officials said the board's actions are solely aimed at supporting education. - ➤ Fire crews from about 10 states and roughly 80 people began burning roughly 95 acres near Mount Rushmore early Thursday to remove fallen hazards in the Black Hills. More burns will continue over the next two days—causing some trails to close and smoke to affect views at the memorial. KELOLAND

- ➤ First Dakota National Bank offered an interest-free, no-fee loan for three months of net pay to federal workers affected by a government shutdown — the program opened Monday and has already helped several employees in local communities. KELOLAND

- ➤ At Muley Hills Lodge near Sturgis, attorney Mario Gonzalez spoke during the record-setting West River History Conference in early October at Deadwood, outlining proposals to resolve Sioux land claims. He urged that a Sioux Nation National Council be established and that past monetary awards be treated as back rent—aiming for joint management of federal lands with the tribes. Native Sun News
