- ➤ The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe declared a state of emergency due to a 26-day federal shutdown—while a Sioux Falls gift drive will help local families during the holiday season—and local sports bars saw busy business from Saturday’s SDSU vs NDSU football game. - ➤ Residents in Piedmont were shocked when state officials approved a 300-acre limestone mine—set to start in August and run until 2043—without prior notice, and many attended an Oct 21 meeting to share concerns about air, water, and property values. KELOLAND
- ➤ Rapid Transit System is hosting an art contest — the public can still submit artwork entries this month so a winning piece will be chosen to display on a new bus. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ The South Dakota Department of Social Services stated that SNAP benefits for October have been fully delivered but if the shutdown continues, November benefits may face delays—eligibility rules remain unchanged.
