COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Minneluzahan Senior Center will host the inaugural Champions of Compassion fundraiser on November 22 at 4:00 p.m. where dinner by Sacred Storm Buffalo will support a day center for those in need and honor community leaders—Captain Ryan Marks, Deb Daly, and Tom and Carla Cheyenne—who have made a difference in Rapid City.  Native Sun News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Black Hills Corporation and NorthWestern Energy Group filed a request with the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission to merge their operations—NorthWestern will become a direct subsidiary if the filing is approved. The companies announced the plan in August and said the merger will not directly increase customer rates while Black Hills pre-merger shareholders hold 56% of the combined company.  KELOLAND

ECONOMY NEWS

  • South Dakota lost about $173 million in its Gross State Product over 29 days of the federal shutdown, causing around 100 layoffs and delays in small business loans. Each additional week of the shutdown is expected to cost another $40 million and reduce federal contract spending by about $29 million.  KELOLAND

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The school board hosted a special meeting last night to get public input on plans to address a nearly $1.25 million budget gap from low enrollment numbers. Options discussed include closing two rural schools+ moving Whitewood 5th grade students to Sturgis, with decisions expected at the first December meeting.  KBHB
  • South Dakota Mines was nationally recognized by education company EAB—its success in guiding students through every stage of their academic journey earned the accolade, further cementing its commitment to student achievement.  Rapid City Journal
