CULTURE NEWS

  • Travel South Dakota announced its New Year’s Day float “Carved in Stone: A Legacy of Teamwork” will be in the Rose Parade on January 1 — the float will feature Mount Rushmore’s faces, the Dignity statue, thundering bison and nearly 40,000 floral elements such as corn, wheat, and sunflowers with textured rust cornsilk for the bison coat.  KELOLAND

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Western Dakota Tech hosted a scrubs camp today for 185 high school juniors and seniors who took part in hands-on activities across different health care fields—students learned duties from dental assisting to lab tech skills while interacting with educators and college students. The camp gave young attendees a practical look at what a career in health care might offer.  KELOLAND

  • Rapid City Parks Division crews are taking advantage of clear weather to begin decorating dozens of trees with Christmas holiday lights — an initial step to brighten public spaces for the holidays.  Rapid City Journal
  • The Rapid City Fire Department will host a dedication ceremony and open house for the newly expanded Station 1 downtown — officials will showcase the facility's new features during the event.  Rapid City Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Southeast Tech launches its multi-year mental health initiative Breakthrough: A Convergence on Mental Health at Belbas Theatre in the Washington Pavilion from 4 to 8 p.m.—the event will feature two keynote speakers and a networking session for community leaders, professionals, and students to discuss rising mental health needs.  KELOLAND
