- ➤ Veterans Day events in Rapid City will honor local veterans with planned community programs scheduled for November 11. Local officials said the celebrations will include support services and recognition activities to assist veterans and their families. Rapid City Journal
- ➤ Local Menards is hosting a Holiday Toy Drive drop site through December 15 to collect new, unwrapped toys for children. The store also features an Enchanted Forest display with decorated trees and colorful lights — a festive event for local families. Native Sun News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Eunice “Dawn” Little Sky, 95, a celebrated Native American actress and cultural icon known for her pioneering work at Disney and her contributions to art and education, passed away October 24 at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City. Wake services were held November 1 and funeral services took place November 2 at Rockyford School New Gym — arrangements were managed by Sioux Funeral Home. Native Sun News
- ➤ Elaine Gullickson from Brookings celebrated her 81st birthday in Los Angeles by winning a television set on The Price is Right and kept her win a secret until she hosted a party on November 4 to share her surprise — even her husband was unaware. KBHB
- ➤ Dawn Little Sky, a Native actor and artist, died October 24th and left a strong mark on film and television. Eddie Little Sky made real Native roles in TV and movies — his work still helps Native actors today. Native Sun News
- ➤ Native American Heritage Month brings events across South Dakota that honor Native contributions in food, art, and science. Schools and tribal colleges host talks and performances that show how traditions like the Three Sisters method help shape modern life—proving that Native heritage is active and vital. Native Sun News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Larry Rhoden and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development lowered interest rates for Rural Development loan programs on October 21 — reducing the base rate to 3.5 percent and offering a 2.5 percent option for beginning farmers and ranchers. This change is expected to help more producers secure funds for land, equipment, and livestock. Native Sun News
- ➤ Rapid City issued 223 building permits in October with a valuation total of more than $69.8 million, the second-highest October on record — the city has now issued 2,078 permits worth $357.4 million this year. In addition, 21 permits were for single family homes and seven permits exceeded $1 million, including major projects like the Children's Home Society facility and an airport terminal expansion. KBHB
- ➤ Eric Bristol Smith, who ran Bristol’s Hearing Solutions in Rapid City since 2013, lost his South Dakota license on Thursday after customers complained about undelivered hearing aids and unreturned payments. The state board noted that Smith did not return calls or attend his formal hearing and required him to reimburse patients and pay $452.92 in fees—he will have time to appeal the decision. KELOLAND
