- ➤ South Dakota Wildland Fire now offers free burn permits for landowners to burn slash piles that can reach 6 feet in diameter and 5 feet tall, a measure to reduce hazardous fuels before winter. Officials say burns must be timed for when moisture is high—helping to slow wildfire spread and protect lives. KELOLAND

- ➤ South Dakota Prep Football playoff semi-finals produced decisive wins across several classes—Wall won 56 to 6 over Philip 6 while teams in Class 9A, 9B, 9AA, 11A, 11AA, 11AAA and 11B advanced toward state championships. Notable scores include Howard’s 18 to 12 win over Alcester-Hudson and Freeman-Marion-FA’s back-to-back victories, setting the stage for future state contests. KBHB
