Reptile Gardens confirmed several animals were lost in a fire last Friday at the park—officials reported that the cause is still undetermined and believed to be electrical in nature.

Rapid City has announced free parking at downtown meters for Thanksgiving weekend from today through Sunday & on December 6, 13 and 20 with additional free parking on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day to help drivers enjoy local stores and events during the holiday season.
The Bureau of Land Management is accepting sealed bids for two cattle-grazing leases in the Fort Meade Recreation Area for the 2026–28 grazing seasons.
Bidders must deliver bids by 3 p.m. Jan. 12, 2026 — a field tour will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 17, 2025 at the Alkali Creek Campground near exit 34 off Interstate 90.

The South Dakota Animal Industry Board is monitoring an Equine Herpes Virus outbreak among horses that attended barrel racing events in Texas from Nov.
5—9 and in Oklahoma from Nov. 17—18. The board will contact event attendees and advise horse owners to isolate their horses for 21 days and seek a veterinarian if signs of illness appear.
