CRIME NEWS

  • A Rapid City man acknowledged soliciting nude photos from at least 30 underage girls on Instagram and is set to plead guilty to attempted enticement of a minor.  KBHB
  • Charles Merrival, 32, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for methamphetamine distribution conspiracy in Rapid City.  Rapid City Journal
  • Jacob Denker was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for distributing over 400 grams of fentanyl in South Dakota, including Rapid City and Pine Ridge Reservation.  Rapid City Journal
  • Three teenagers in Rapid City face charges of arson and burglary after allegedly starting a fire in a home on October 24, with two pleading not guilty and the third awaiting a competency evaluation.  KBHB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Museum of Geology at South Dakota Mines will start charging an annual admission fee from January 2025 to enhance exhibits and programming.  Rapid City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has proposed a 1.25% funding increase for education, state employees, and healthcare providers, alongside budget reductions in other areas and the establishment of education savings accounts.  KELOLAND
  • The Pennington County Commission was found in violation of open meetings laws by South Dakota's Open Meetings Commission, based on complaints from Commissioners Deb Hadcock and Travis Lasseter regarding discussions that strayed from the planned agenda in an executive session.  Rapid City Journal
