COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A statewide housing discussion was held in Murdo on Nov. 12 to share ideas for new housing and boost local growth. Engage South Dakota will continue next year with a $100,000 grant from the Community Foundation & support from local partners.  South Dakota News Watch

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local silversmith Jean Roach and daughter Glenabah Tulley showcased handmade jewelry and quilts with Native designs at the Lakota Nation Invitational in Rapid City; their work sold out daily, and they announced a graduation special available through April 2026.  Native Sun News
  • Warren Spang sold his custom concho belts at the Lakota Nation Invitational in Rapid City from December 16–20, where the event blended sports with Native cultural arts. He will return for the Black Hills Powwow in October to take new custom orders.  Native Sun News
  • A recent community article on Cheyenne manners (approved by local elders) outlines proper etiquette for public gatherings, including respectful listening and gentle greetings, and guides local behavior as residents build lasting bonds in 2026.  Native Sun News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last week, the 48th Annual Lakota Education Conference at Best Western Ramkota drew large crowds as founders Maurice Twiss and Terri Jo Gibbon led sessions on education + unity while keynote speaker Mo Brings Plenty from Yellowstone shared personal stories that inspire Native youth.  Native Sun News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Black Hills Life Flight in Rapid City received an upgraded PC-12 plane that will help transport patients faster in adverse weather and over longer distances. The aircraft (with new avionics and better climb rates) offers improved fuel economy and extra capacity for heavier loads.  Native Sun News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mahpiya Luta Crusaders won both titles as the girls defeated Lakota Tech 65–34 and the boys edged Cheyenne-Eagle Butte 76–74 in double overtime on a high-stakes championship day. Coaches Matt Rama and Christian McGhee led teams that showed strong teamwork and resilience throughout the tournament.  Native Sun News
