- ➤ Rapid City police and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office are searching for 23-year-old Max Martinez and 24-year-old Brittany Dillon—both local residents—who are connected to last week’s fatal shooting of Monte Gakin in an apartment in the city’s northeast, and anyone with information is asked to contact the police. - ➤ A 63-year-old man from Black Hawk, Jackie Corean, was sentenced on Tuesday to 11 years and three months in federal prison and five years of supervised release for his role in a conspiracy to distribute meth across South Dakota—including in Rapid City and the Pine Ridge Reservation—after his home served as a distribution hub and law enforcement seized six firearms along with drug paraphernalia. - ➤ The Oceti Sakowin Writers Society in Rapid City got a $150,000 grant from the Henry Luce Foundation to create The Oceti Sakowin Reader—an anthology of Dakota, Nakota and Lakota literature including stories, poems, and teacher guides.
