A South Dakota conservation group landed $7.98 million in federal money to restore grasslands

7,500 acresof marginal cropland the project aims to turn into perennial grassland

The restored land stays available for managed grazing and hay production.

Landowners join through voluntary agreements, and the work is set to run with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. KOTA reports applications will be reviewed competitively, with priority for strong conservation benefits.

  • Help available: land prep, seed, planting costs, early rental payments
  • Next step: the fund says it's finalizing the program; see its website
